ABOUR THE CARRIAGE(S)

VISA VIE

A Visa Vie is a fancy English style carriage like you would expect
to find in Central Park.  Though this one is considered to be
three quarter size (scale) it is ideal for taking the bride and
groom from the church to the reception in fine style.  There is room
in the Visa Vie for another couple too, so the best man and maid
of honor often accompany the bridal couple.

Either way, the carriage will accommodate up to four adults in comfort.

The carriage is "street legal" with oil side lamps
for evening rides as well as an apparatus that prevents
the street from becoming soiled.

The carriage is done in a deep wine finish with
black accent.  The top is convertible and will fold
back for an open ride on a warm sunny day.
If the weather is rainy, the top can raised to offer
some protection from the elements.

The carriage is driven by one of two gray horses.
Both horses are well trained to provide for maximum
safety and an enjoyable ride.  The driver makes
the decision regarding which horse is best suited to
the needs of your occasion.

Pricing is with respect a local wedding
(local is usually defined as less than 20 miles from Findlay, Ohio).
This includes the carriage ride from the
church to the reception provided they are in the
same town. Wedding parties cannot be transported from
one town to another via horse and carriage.

Make sure you have transportation
available after the reception.  The driver will
leave immediately after arriving at the reception
destination.

There are no *mileage charges involved in the actual
carriage ride.  If the wedding and the reception are
in the same location, the bride and groom will be
taken for a ride and be brought back for the
reception.

*There will be some equipment transfer
mileage included for wedding locations more than
40 miles round trip from where the carriage originates.

ABOUT THE DRIVER

Sundance Farm owner, G.R. Lanning is the only driver
used by Sundance Farm.  He has over 31 years of experience
in training and driving carriage horses.

He arrives at the wedding location in a gray tuxedo, black
top hat, black boots and driving gloves. This adds to the
overall vintage appeal of the service.

Because the carriage and horse may not be left unattended for
even a moment, the passengers are responsible for both boarding
and leaving the carriage without driver assistance.

ABOUT THE HORSE

One of two well trained carriage horses will pull the carriage.
A light gray quarter horse named, "Misty" or a darker gray dappled
gelding named "Murphy" are used at the digression of the driver.

Both horses are experts at what they do.  They are used exclusively for
the service and respond to commands of the driver only.  Neither
are prone to be "spooked" by loud noises.  Even car horns are
completely ignored by the horses. We do ask though, that if other
members of your wedding party or guests will be following the
carriage for a ride after the ceremony, that they refrain from constant
horn honking.  It's just good practice.

Both horses have won numerous driving awards at shows and fairs for
their expertise at providing leisurely carriage rides.  Both have
innumerable ribbons and trophies to show for their efforts.

We respectfully request that no food or water is offered to
the horse. Though well meaning people often want to offer sugar,
apples and sometimes even water on a warm day, offering food
or water that may be strange to the animal can cause digestive
upset or even serious illness.

The driver cares for the animals properly at all times. If
water is needed, it is provided by the driver from a supply
brought from a safe source to which the horse is accustomed.
Only the driver can determine when it is safe to give water
on a hot day.  He also carefully determines the amount of fluid
to give a horse who is warm from working.

IMPORTANT!

The carriage follows the same laws as motor vehicles so
there is no alcohol allowed in the carriage.

We ask that you avoid any food or beverages while
in the carriage. This is for the protection of
your clothing and the carriage interior.

Smoking is not permitted.

Children under the age of sixteen are not permitted
in the carriage under most circumstances, so check
with Sundance Farm prior to the wedding for details.

Please do not ask the driver to provide "rides" to
wedding guests. The agreement is to transport the wedding
party and not to provide amusement rides. The horse has
worked quite hard by the time you arrive at your destination
so please don't ask him to work to exhaustion by providing
guests with recreational rides.

BOOKING

A deposit is necessary to book and hold a date.  The
deposit is not refundable unless Sundance Farm cannot
attend. (The service involves equipment and an animal so
on the outside chance there would be a problem, a refund
of the deposit would be made.)

Deposits are applied to the full cost of the service.

Please note that the carriage operates
in rain or shine.

CANCELLATIONS

If there is a decision to cancel on or before the day of the wedding,
cancellations must be received by the driver no later than *7:00 AM
on the day of the wedding. This cancellation will result in only the
deposit being forfeited.  If the complete cost has been paid, a refund
of the remaining balance minus the deposit will be made within 30 days.

*if the wedding is scheduled to take place before 12:00 NOON,
cancellations must be received by midnight the day before.

Cancellations called in after *7:00 AM on the day of the wedding
will result in all charges (the total cost) being due even if the carriage
is not used.

*Cancellations for morning weddings not received by midnight on the
preceding day will result in all charges (the total cost) being due.

The balance of the charges (total cost minus deposit) for the service are
due on or before the day of the wedding. If you choose
to pay on the day of the wedding, it is a good idea
to give the check to the best man or another trusted
member of the wedding party to give to the driver before
the wedding party leaves the church in the carriage.

All charges must be paid in full by cash, check or money
order before the wedding ceremony.  To help avoid
embarrassment, please do not expect to leave the church
in a carriage for which charges have not been paid.

HINTS AND TIPS

1.    If it looks like rain, have some umbrellas available in the carriage.
Though the top can be raised to provide some protection from rain,
the sides of the carriage are not protected from the elements.

2.    Very tight fitting (mermaid style) dresses may not be appropriate
unless there is a large slit in the side or back. There is a high
step from the ground to the carriage.

3.    Signs, balloons, streamers and other decorations are permitted so
long as they are not in the way of the carriage wheels and will
not be near enough to the horse to cause a distraction.  Any signs
must be held in place with masking tape only to avoid damage to the
      exterior finish on the carriage.

4.    On cool days, a shawl or lap robe may be placed in the carriage to afford
      some extra warmth.

5.    If the bride tosses her flowers from the carriage, please make sure
they are thrown toward the back or sides and not toward the front
where the hose may be distracted.

6.    Long trains or veils should be removed before attempting to enter
      a carriage.

7.    On the outside chance there is a problem with a vehicle or an animal,
we strongly encourage you to have backup transportation available at
the wedding location.  Even though Sundance Farm has never missed
a wedding for which it has agreed to provide transportation, we are
working with living animals and there is always the possibility
(however remote) that an illness could occur.  If you have a "plan B"
you won't be left "standing at the alter" so-to-speak.  Of course, should
this occur, you would receive a refund of any fees or deposits paid.

8.    Make sure there is a space available at the church or reception location
which is large enough for the parking of a truck and a large horse trailer.
There must also be ample room for assembling the carriage and horse.
Please discuss these details with Sundance Farm prior to the wedding.
(This may not apply to weddings within Findlay, Ohio)

9.    Often times there is a discrepancy about when a wedding will actually
take place.  Make sure that you know what time the bride will start down
the aisle.  For example:  A 4:00 PM wedding may mean that the bride starts
down the aisle at 4:00 PM or it could mean that the music begins at 4:00.
The reason this is important is because the driver will not arrive at the
wedding until after all the guests have been seated.  This
insures that they will not be late entering the church because they have
stayed outdoors to view the horse and carriage.

10.   If this carriage ride will be a surprise for the bride or groom, please make
sure to mention that in any correspondence. We don't want to give away any
      secrets.

11.   If the church has more than one door, make sure to let the driver know from which
door you will leave the church.  If possible, parking cones may be
set up in front of the church to prevent others from parking where the
carriage will be after the ceremony.  Allow at least two to three car lengths
      for the carriage.

12.   If you will have pictures taken after the ceremony, the driver will take you
for a short ride immediately following the ceremony so your guests can see
you leave.  He will then return you to the church for your pictures and wait
to take you on a longer ride or to the reception.

13.   If the reception does not immediately follow the ceremony (and photograph
session) you will be given ride as you would be given if the reception
and the wedding were in the same location.  In the event that the reception
is at a different time of day than the wedding, please make sure you have
other transportation available to take you to the reception.

14.   The carriage does not travel at the same speed as an automobile.  Please bear
in mind that the distance from the wedding to the reception will determine
how quickly you arrive.  It is a good idea to send some of the wedding party
ahead to greet guests as they arrive.  A one or two mile trip in a carriage
can take 45 minutes or more depending on the situation.
