My aunt Ann
used to say that the summer was half over when the fireworks
started. I, on the other hand consider the grand finale
the beginning of summer!
I think it’s
a glass half empty glass half full thing, but regardless, July 4th is
one of
those times
that make you so proud to be an American.
My hubby and
I took our regular spot on a little hill at the fairgrounds to
watch our annual
display and this year, it was just fabulous! The last part,
the above mentioned
grand finale, as so awesome and went on for so long
it started
making me think of what it would be like to live somewhere that bombs
are actually
falling. Hurtful, destructive bombs, not
the dazzling delights we look
forward to
seeing each year. Before this turns into
political rhetoric, I just wanted
to say that
I hope you and yours had a wonderful and safe Independence Day!
I was a little surprised at the number of small
children allowed to run around
with sparklers.
Maybe it’s my age showing, but in a crowd
of 30 thousand
it was worrying
me to pieces. I kept thinking of what could
happen and was
so glad when
it didn’t. There has to be a way in the 21st
century to make them
safer for kids.
Turn out the lights, gather a crowd, give
a kid a metal stick with

all over the place and I think you have set up a potential disaster!
I had them
when I was a kid, but I don’t remember Mom and Dad allowing me to
run around
in a crowd with them. In fact, I think my
parents actually supervised
my use of sparklers.
Oh well, times have changed, not ME certainly.
I am now
fighting my annual battle with silverfish in the master bathroom. Last year
it got so
bad, and I set off so many bug bombs that my bathroom had a hazardous
waste sign
on the door. This year, I got some new stuff that isn’t supposed to
have that
horrible smell a bug bomb leaves behind and it actually worked!
I love it
when things work and hate it when they don’t.
As for silverfish
I don’t
think they are the smartest creatures in the world. Last year we had
so much
rain that we spent the entire summer in a perpetual state of dampness.
But the
silverfish still preferred my dry bathtub to the puddles all over the yard.
My hubby
finds it hilarious that I am so afraid of them.
I think I will put one in
his lunch
box and see if he still finds it so funny!
I am
laughing thinking of him and his big burly truck driver friends doing the
100 yard
dash when one of those ugly and quite fast moving little devils jump out
at THEM!
Well,
other than to say, I hope you are enjoying this nice summer so far, I
